BUSINESS INFORMATION - Indian Americans Venkatraman Ramakrishnan won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009 along with two other people because of their work on "ribosoma" that could help in the development of new antibiotics.

Ramakrishnan (57) derived from the temple town of Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, state in southern India, will share the prize worth 1.4 million dollars with Thomas Steitz of the United States and Ada Yonath from Israel, was quoted as saying by PTI-OANA

Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said the three-dimensional model developed by three scientists who show how the different antibiotic binding with "ribosoma."

Ramakrishnan is the seventh Indian descent who won the Nobel prize. Six other winners are Rabindranath Tagore

(Literature), CV Raman (Fiskia), Hargobind Khorana (Medicine and Fisologi), Subramaniam Chandrasekar (Physics), Amartya Sen (Economics) and VS Naipaul (Literature).
