Saya sudah melihat film yang menceritakan kisah He Ah Lee, pianis dengan hanya empat jari (baca artikel "Kebesaran Hati Ibu Mampu Mengubah Derita Anak"). Ternyata ibunya dengan berurai air mata terpaksa ikut mengajarkan disiplin kepada anaknya untuk terus berlatih. Di satu pihak sang ibu sedih karena melihat penderitaan sang anak saat berlatih piano (tangan dan kakinya sampai luka-luka), tapi di lain pihak ia tahu ini adalah talenta sang anak yang perlu dikembangkan.

Tetapi dorongan dan pemupukan talenta anak harus tetap dalam koridornya sebagai hak anak atas pendidikan. Bukan sebaliknya menjadi landasan eksploitasi terhadap bakat anak. Keseimbangan terhadap hak dan kewajibannya akan membantu membentuk anak yang mandiri. Semuanya tentu berjalan sesuai dengan waktu yang sesuai dengan umurnya.

Sementara itu kesulitan yang muncul terasa semakin kompleks: antara tuntutan untuk menyediakan kebutuhan finansial, tuntutan untuk menyediakan waktu dan perhatian terhadap anak, tuntutan untuk turut serta mengawasi perkembangan dan pergaulan anak supaya bisa menjadi manusia yang dewasa (secara fisik dan rohani, secara logika dan emosional). Semoga semua kesulitan ini tidak mengalahkan kita dalam mencari dan mengembangkan talenta anak Indonesia. Bukan sekedar bagi anak-anak yang secara biologis bergantung kepada kita sebagai orang tuanya, tapi juga kepada anak-anak yang terpinggirkan oleh sistem dan kondisi lingkungannya.
