BUSINESS INFORMATION -United States computer giant, Dell, on Wednesday announced that the company would close a desktop computer manufacturing plant in the United States next year and will cut about 900 workers.

AFP quoted the estimate Dell factory closures in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, conducted in January 2010.

The company said that as many as 905 workers will be laid off in stages and about 600 will be issued next month.

"This is a difficult decision, especially for the North Carolina colleagues, but it is one of interest for Dell customers and our company," said Frank Miller, vice president of public business unit of Dell.

In a statement, Dell said that the move was "as part of the initiative being taken to improve the long-term value delivery to customers with penyerderhanaan and meningkatkana operational efficiency."

Earlier this year, Dell moved its manufacturing operations based in Ireland to Poland.

Dell's net profit has decreased recently, and it announced plans to cut four billion dollars in expenses in 2011 fiscal year.

Companies based in Texas that is making the industry a PC (personal computer) to two of the world's largest after Hewlett-Parkard and HP.

Gartner research group said last month that the global computer market shows signs of recovery, with sales predicted to decrease only 2.0 percent this year, better than the 6.0 percent decline forecast.
