BUSINESS INFORMATION - Chairman French automotive company, Renault, Carlos Ghosn, Tuesday, predicted the world auto sales next year "like 2009," ranging from 59 million vehicles.

Told reporters at the Frankfurt auto show to 63, Ghosn said that in 2009 "our best estimate for this year around 59 million vehicles," up from the estimate of 55 million units at the beginning of the year.

However, in Peugeot Citroen counterpart, Philippe Varin, said that sales in Europe are likely to fall in 2010 even though he said he "wished there was an increase in the second half" of that year.

Ghosn said the results were aided by a reduction in fiscal incentives and the price premium offered by the government cars in major markets like the U.S., China, Germany, England, Italy, France, and Spain.

Newly emerging markets in Brazil, India, and Russia should begin to strengthen, he estimates, lifting some weaknesses through the plan "cash-for-clunkers".

Sales "will rise next year, (although) may not be substantially" in the markets, he said.

Varin said he expected the French market will be flat this year and he did not see any growth next year.
